Former President Donald Trump fueled rumors that he would choose Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) as his vice president in 2024 when Scott appeared at a South Carolina rally just 10 days before the primary there.

The Get Out the Vote rally was held Wednesday night, which the newly engaged Scott reminded the crowd was Valentine's Day.

He said that he told his fiancee that he had to "introduce the next President of the United States."

Scott mentioned border security, improving the economy, and restoring law and order as three main reasons to vote for Trump in the upcoming primary.

Trump endorsement

Scott endorsed Trump over former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley after he suspended his own campaign, and Trump currently holds a significant lead in the state even though it is Haley's home state.

If Haley loses the South Carolina primary as expected, she is pretty much finished as a candidate.

Due to a lot of moderate Never-Trump money flowing to her campaign, however, she may stay in the race for a while longer.

That's not necessarily a bad thing because it gives Trump someone to run against.

Scott solidly conservative

As for Scott, he would be a good VP pick because he is solidly conservative and would fit the diversity box, for those that actually care about that.

Unlike Democrats, Republicans don't generally choose their candidates and appointees on the basis of race or minority status, but they also don't shy away from elevating diverse people when they are actually qualified.

This could be a move just to stick it in Haley's eye that a senator in her state endorsed Trump, or it could be an indication of something more.

Trump has said he knows who his VP pick will be, but hasn't revealed that just yet since it is early in the primary process and months before the Republican convention. Most VP announcements come closer to the convention, since it gives the press less time to criticize.

Presumptive nominee Trump and his eventual running mate will face a firestorm of criticism along with renewed efforts to censor social media and otherwise stifle the GOP message in this and other races.

It's going to be a very tough battle, and Trump may need a gentleman like Scott to balance out his mean tweets and punchy demeanor as the election draws closer.
