Trump calls on voters to "swamp" election with early ballots

For years, former President Donald Trump has been a vociferous critic of early voting along with the use of mail-in ballots.

Yet in a major reversal, Trump put out a video this week in which he called on supporters to embrace both as part of an effort to "swamp" Democrats.

Trump: GOP must "use every appropriate tool available"

According to the Daily Mail, Trump used the video to announce a new project called "Swamp The Vote USA" which is designed to facilitate mail-in and early voting among Republicans.

"Many Republicans like to vote on Election Day and we must swamp the radical Democrats with massive turnout on Tuesday, November 5," the former president was quoted as saying.

Trump made clear that he continues to believe that voting should only take place on Election Day via the use of paper ballots by those with valid I.D.

"But until then, Republicans must win," he insisted. "And we must use every appropriate tool available to beat the Democrats, they are destroying our country."

"The way you win is to swamp them"

He emphasized that if his backers "can't make it" to a polling starting on Election Day then they "need to make a plan, register and vote any way possible."

Trump went on to urge supporters that they should be wary of the potential for election fraud, stating, "Keep your eyes open because these people want to cheat and they do cheat and frankly it's the only thing they do well."

"The way you win is to swamp them, if we swamp them, they can't cheat, it just doesn't work out," the former president continued. "Whether you vote early, absentee, by mail or in-person we are going to protect the vote."

"We need to get your vote," Trump declared before insisting that this year's election would be "the most important day in the history of our country."

Website provides information on requesting a ballot

Trump's message is reiterated on the Swamp The Vote USA website, which offers a guide to requesting ballots and confirming voter registration details.

It implores Republicans to "[d]o your part to fix the damage Joe Biden and the far-left liberals have caused by Swamping Them with Votes."

"Request your absentee or mail ballot or pledge to vote early in-person today!  You can also confirm your voter registration details or pledge to vote on Election Day," the website adds.
