Trump meets with DeSantis in Florida through mutual friend

Supporters of former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis were surprised Monday morning to learn of an unscheduled meeting between the two.

According to The Hill, Trump and DeSantis met in Florida over the weekend with the help of a mutual friend, and reportedly hammered out a vision for the future of the Republican Party, the country, and for the state of Florida.

Real estate mogul Steve Witkoff reportedly arranged the meeting in Hollywood, Florida at one of his resorts.

Trump was the first to tout the success of the meeting on his Truth Social platform, calling it a "great meeting" between the two high-profile Republicans.

What happened?

Of course, with Trump's VP pick still in the air, news of the meeting brought a renewed speculation that DeSantis could still be in the running, though he's politely turned down the idea of being vice president in the past.

Regardless, Trump held nothing back as he let his followers know what they talked about during the surprise meeting.

"The conversation mostly concerned how we would work closely together to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump wrote.

The former president added, "Also discussed was the future of Florida, which is FANTASTIC! I greatly appreciate Ron’s support in taking back our Country from the Worst President in the History of the United States. November 5th is a BIG DAY!!!"

The meeting was the first since the end of DeSantis' 2024 presidential campaign. The two had previously launched bitter attacks against one another.

Fundraising tool

While Trump would not specifically need the governor's support to win the state of Florida in the election, DeSantis' fundraising apparatus is still strong and could be a major boost for the former president.

Social media users applauded the two leaders burying the hatchet.

"Trump and DeSantis burying the hatchet is one of those things that’s good for everyone and most hardcore supporters of each probably won’t be able to see it. It’s good for Trump. It’s good for DeSantis. There are no downsides to it. Take the W," Jesse Kelly wrote on X

Only time will tell if there's more to come out of the meeting.
