Trump reverses burdensome Biden regulations on household appliances
President Trump is bringing an end to Crooked Joe Biden's heavy-handed regulations on household appliances.
In the name of environmentalism, the Biden administration targeted common household items from incandescent lightbulbs to gas ranges to affordable water heaters.
Biden's regulations sought to indirectly ban certain products with impossible-to-meet energy standards that forced disfavored items off the market.
But Trump is taking a different approach, directing his administration to let Americans decide which products are best for them.
Trump ends appliance regulations
For instance, Trump's Energy Department announced it is postponing Biden's standards for seven different devices: central air conditioners, clothes washers and dryers, general service lamps, walk-in coolers and freezers, gas instantaneous water heaters, commercial refrigeration equipment, and air compressors.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright also said the Department is creating a new category for natural gas tankless water heaters. Biden banned cheaper models of instant water heaters that are less energy efficient.
“A top priority for President Trump is lowering costs for American families,” Secretary Wright said. “Today's announcement will foster consumer choice and lower prices – it is a win for all Americans. The people, not the government, should be choosing the home appliances and products they want at prices they can afford."
Meanwhile, Trump's head of the EPA, Lee Zeldin, is loosening water efficiency standards that the Biden administration "weaponized" to push water fixtures, such as shower heads and toilets, that "just don't work well."
"Together with the Department of Energy and President Trump’s leadership we are working to not only lower costs for American families but improve the quality of household appliances," Zeldin said.
"Common sense"
President Trump said he has directed Zeldin to bring back the "common sense" standards that Trump enacted during his first term.
"I am hereby instructing Secretary Lee Zeldin to immediately go back to my Environmental Orders, which were terminated by Crooked Joe Biden, on Water Standards and Flow pertaining to SINKS, SHOWERS, TOILETS, WASHING MACHINES, DISHWASHERS, etc., and to likewise go back to the common sense standards on LIGHTBULBS, that were put in place by the Trump Administration, but terminated by Crooked Joe,” Trump wrote in the Truth Social post.
“I look forward to signing these Orders. THANK YOU!!!”
Trump has often criticized heavy-handed environmental regulations for taking small comforts away from consumers. The Biden standards limited shower head pressure and effectively banned incandescent light bulbs, which many people, including Trump, favor for their warm, soft light.
The president is also banning federal use of paper straws and bringing back more durable plastic straws.
