Trump says pro-Harris Iowa poll is 'fake'
Former President Donald Trump is arguing that a recent Iowa poll that has Vice President Kamala Harris winning is "fake."
Trump, according to the Washington Examiner, made the remark during a recent interview with NBC News.
First, we will take a look at the poll.
Then, we will look at Trump's opinion of it as well as why Trump feels this way.
The details
The poll, according to the Washington Examiner, comes from the Des Moines Register and Mediacom.
Per the outlet:
According to a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll, Harris leads Trump 47% to 44%, with a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. The poll, which surveyed 808 likely Iowa voters and included those who have already voted as well as those who say they definitely plan to vote, was conducted by Selzer & Co. from Oct. 28-31.
The Examiner goes on to highlight the problem with this poll, which is that it is a massive outlier.
"The results of the poll aren’t reflected in any other recent Iowa polls. Trump’s campaign soothed concerns in a memo, citing a recent Emerson poll showing Trump ahead by 10 percentage points," the outlet reports.
Indeed, there are several states that are believed to be up for grabs in the 2024 presidential election, but the polls have made it clear that Iowa is not one of them. As Fox News reports, "Iowa, which is not considered a swing state, is geographically near the Rust Belt swing state of Michigan, and it shares a border with Wisconsin."
"Fake" polls
Suffice it to say that Trump is not too happy about this poll result, and he made this clear during a recent interview that he did with NBC News.
There, the former president referred to the poll as "fake" and referred to the pollster who conducted the poll as "a Trump-hater."
Trump's campaign - and many others - have also weighed in on the poll. Chief Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio said this:
To their credit, the Emerson College poll has an R+4 party split (below 2020 exit polls at R+10), and a Trump +8 recalled 2020 vote margin that aligns with reported returns. Emerson shows Trump ahead of Harris 53-43 in their survey.
Many are asking just how it is that the Iowa poll that has Harris up three percentage points can be so wrong.
We, of course, do not know the answer to this. But, it is probably not far from the truth to suggest that there may be some serious manipulation tactics being used here.
