Trump secures backing of Silicon Valley moguls

Former President Donald Trump has managed to secure a significant amount of support for his 2024 presidential campaign from Silicon Valley moguls.

Trump, according to Just The News, recently received $12 million in a fundraiser that he held in Silicon Valley.

By Trump's standards, this is not a lot of money. He, after all, is said to have raised over $200 million in the aftermath of his recently guilty verdict. But, the reason why this $12 million is such a big deal is because of where it was raised.

The fundraiser was held in San Francisco, California, a stronghold for liberal Democrats.

So much for that guilty verdict . . .

Trump is known for securing a lot of fundraising from small donors - typical U.S. citizens. This fundraiser, however, was a bit different.

Just the News reports:

The fundraising haul did not reportedly come from the city’s average citizens, however, but from large-dollar donors with ties to Silicon Valley.

The outlet goes on to note that,"In recent weeks, many of its heavyweights, albeit for varying reasons, have thrown their support behind the former president."

Some of the big names who are supporting Trump include venture capitalist David Sacks, Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire, Tesla founder Elon Musk, and others.

This is a big change from 2016, when Trump, in Silicon Valley, only had the support of Peter Thiel.

The "why?"

Many of the Silicon Valley moguls who are supporting Trump have offered explanations for why they are doing so.

Sacks, for example, has released a rather large explanatory statement, citing the economy, the Russia-Ukraine war, the U.S.-Mexico border, and the Democrats' weaponization of the legal system against Trump and other Republicans.

Maguire offered his own explanation, which can be found here. Musk, on the other hand, has been a little more indirect, but he has, on his social media site, X, spoken out, for example, against, among other things, the weaponization of the legal system against Trump.

The bottom line is that there appears to be a huge shift, at all levels of American society, to Trump, which begs the question of how Biden stands any chance against Trump in the upcoming election.
