VP Harris rolls out push for more gun control to stop mass shootings at schools

While the United States economy continues to burn and the illegal immigration crisis spirals out of control at the southern border, Vice President Kamala Harris has other priorities.

According to The Intercept, Harris is focusing her energy on calling for more "gun control" and promoting a Secret Service program that encourages students to spy on other students.

Harris made the remarks while touring Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where the 2018 Parkland, Florida mass shooting took place.

The vice president, like many misguided and dangerously uninformed Democrats, called for universal background checks and assault weapons bans, somehow implying that those things will stop bad people from doing bad things.

New spy program

The Intercept explained the Secret Service-based "spying" program that she believes could help stop mass shootings at schools.

The only tangible help the Biden administration offers schools are resources to conduct better behavioral profiling of students, doing so through a Secret Service center founded to study the psychology of presidential assassins.

The push, supported by a bipartisan bill that would strengthen the role of the Department of Homeland Security in school violence, would turn America’s schools into another adjunct of the national security apparatus, a veritable school for spies.

The program would take cues from the National Threat Assessment Center, or NTAC, created by the Secret Service in 1998 to "examine threats to the president and security at complex public gatherings."

Just a year after it was founded, the NTAC's focus added a focus on school shootings in the wake of the Columbine shooting, which resulted in 15 deaths.

The Intercept added:

Today, NTAC is “a multidisciplinary team of social science researchers” who assist “law enforcement, schools, government, and other public and private sector organizations to combat the ever-evolving threat of targeted violence,” according to its website.

During her visit to the high school, Harris announced a new initiative to mitigate school shootings in America.

Most of it includes an aggressive push for new "red flag" laws that would allow law enforcement officials the ability to strip firearms from U.S. citizens who they deem potentially dangerous.

What is it?

The White House listed the two initiatives presented by VP Harris.

"First, Vice President Harris is announcing the launch of the first-ever National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center, which will support the effective implementation of state red flag laws," a fact sheet posted by the White House read.

It added, "Second, the Vice President is calling on states to pass red flag laws and to use BSCA funding to help implement laws already enacted."

While any reasonable person understands that more can be done to help mitigate such tragedies, such as a greater investment in mental health services and better proactiveness from local and federal authorities, enacting additional gun laws simply won't work. But it sure sounds good to their supporters.
