Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in federal prison after he was found guilty by a jury last month on multiple gun charges.

While President Joe Biden initially insisted that his son would not receive a pardon, recent comments suggest that his promise may not hold.

Press secretary won't address whether Harris would issue pardon if elected

According to Breitbart, those comments came from White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a briefing on Wednesday.

"You said from the podium that President Biden would not pardon his son," a reporter pointed out before asking, "If Vice President Harris is elected, would he tell her also to not pardon his son?"

"That’s a hypothetical," the press secretary replied. "He said he would not pardon his son, and I’m just going to leave it there."

Biden faces federal tax charges in California

Hunter Biden's legal problems aren't limited to his gun case, as Fox News noted that the president's son is also set to face trial in California next month on federal tax charges.

Federal prosecutors allege that Biden failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019 and also filed false tax returns.

They maintain that rather than pay off his tax obligations, the president's son instead used the money to pay for drugs, escorts, prostitutes and high-end luxury items.

Although Biden's trial was initially scheduled to begin on June 20, U.S. District Court Judge Mark Scarsi granted a request for a delay.

Critics believe Hunter Biden will be pardoned

Meanwhile, some conservative critics have long insisted that the president will pardon his son, and they include Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

"I'm going to place the odds that Joe Biden pardons Hunter Biden at 100%. Hunter Biden will get a pardon as a result of this decision," Fox News quoted Cruz as saying during an episode of his "Verdict with Ted Cruz" podcast last month.

"It will not happen till after Election Day. He's not going to do it before Election Day. But he's going to stick around. And after Election Day, I believe it is now 100% that Joe Biden will pardon Hunter," he added.

Attorney and political commentator Adam Loewy expressed a similar sentiment after Joe Biden revealed that he would not seek another term in office, writing, "Biggest winner today is Hunter Biden. He is now 1000% getting a pardon."
