Pundits guess Biden will pardon Hunter on his way out of office
President Joe Biden's last days in office are looming close, and as is the custom of many a president, he's looking at his choices about how to exercise his presidential pardons, potentially letting criminals off the hook.
Iconic political reporter Bob Woodward spoke to the issue and predicted that Biden will pardon his son, Hunter. If he does so, this would be in contradiction to what the White House has repeatedly claimed concerning the current first son, as The Daily Mail reported.
However, there are still unknowns regarding the future of the former drug addict first son, who is scheduled to be sentenced for gun and tax fraud claims next month.
Additionally, the 54-year-old's father will have only a few months to determine whether to grant him a pardon.
The Power to Pardon
The president is granted the authority to pardon any federal offense by Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution.
Hunter Biden was found guilty of three felonies in June, which were associated with the acquisition of a revolver in 2018. Then, in September, Hunter Biden entered a guilty plea to nine offenses in a federal tax case.
According to reports, President Biden is profoundly concerned about his son Hunter and is concerned that he may succumb to drug addiction as a result of the pressure.
According to Jeffrey Crouch, a professor at American University who specializes in the pardon procedure, a president has the discretion to "use the clemency power whenever he would like, and as often as he would like."
From Woodward
Woodward offered his opinion, citing some of the reporting done for his book 'War,' when he said "the issue of Hunter Biden is just ripping Joe Biden's heart out, and it is something he talks about with close friends.
According to the longtime Washington journalist, the president "worries about, where is this going to go? He has said he would not pardon him. There are a couple of trials coming up.
"Quite frankly, I know enough about Biden I don't believe that. I think he will pardon his son," the Washington Post journalist told "The Late Show's" Stephen Colbert.
On Hunter
Hunter was allegedly a first-time offender, but also claims he has been sober for years and paid all of his taxes and fines.
However, that money was also supposedly provided by a wealthy friend, and according to all reports from the White House, President Biden is just torn up about the situation.
President Biden traveled to Wilmington to spend the night with his family before departing for the G7 summit in Italy, just hours after Hunter was convicted in June in the gun case involving Delaware.
However, he was able to spend some time on the tarmac with his Hunter, who hugged his dad as the cameras clicked.
