Queen Mary of Denmark looked stunning one year after affair rumors rocked her family
Today, Queen Mary of Denmark visited the Hubertus Hunt in Dyrehaven, looking stunning, according to photos of the event.
The 52-year-old fashionable royal and her daughter, Princess Josephine, 13, were guests at the annual gala, as The Daily Mail reported.
It has been one year since the supposed affair scandal involving her husband, King Frederik, surfaced, and the grinning queen seemed unmoved. Meanwhile, Frederik had gone on a hunting trip in Jutland.
A cross-country horse race known as the Hubertus Hunt takes place every year on the first Sunday of November in Deer Park in Klampenborg, which is north of Copenhagen.
Royal Experts on the Affair
Royal watchers in Denmark are wary that King Frederik's alleged affair with Mexican actress and socialite Genoveva Casanova may cast a long shadow over his reign.
Casanova, 47, is believed to have had an affair with the soon-to-be King of Denmark while residing in Madrid. She was born in Mexico but married into the Spanish aristocracy.
Images of the couple at a Pablo Picasso exhibition were released in October 2023 by the Spanish magazine Lecturas, who also claimed that they went to Casanova's residence and had a private meal thereafter.
Where Was the Wife
Queen Mary, who is Frederik's wife, was in New York at the time for formal royal duties.
Royal specialists in Denmark are of the opinion that the scandal could "flare up again" at any moment, notwithstanding Casanova's vehement rejections of the "malicious" rumors.
Anna Thygesen, a Communications expert, told Danish news outlet B.T., “It was a huge deal, and in principle, it will never be forgotten. It will lie lurking below the surface for many years.”
She added: “It doesn’t take much for it to flare up again.”
Public Perception
Historian Lars Hovbakke Sørensen concurred, mentioning how the scandal affected the general public's perception of Frederik, especially during his trips to Spain.
The only way to really put an end to the rumors, according to Sørensen, could be for King Frederik to be completely transparent.
"But from the beginning, the Royal House has clearly said that it was a private matter, which they are not obliged to inform about, and they are not visibly changing their position," according to the historian.
According to both of the experts , the royal couple may have it easier as time passes, putting distance between the couple and the first year after a scandal—that is, until Casanova decides to "tell her side of the story."
