Dems are finally admitting the truth about the southern border: report
Some Democrats are finally admitting the truth about the southern border crisis.
The truth, of course, is that it is a major issue - one that likely played a big role in the Democrats' loss to President-Elect Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The New York Post reports:
Democrats spent Thanksgiving eating crow — privately confessing that President Biden’s handling of the border crisis fueled voter outrage and the Republican sweep of the White House and both chambers of Congress.
As we will see, though, not all Democrats are keeping this matter private.
The details
It is The Hill that first published a report revealing that Democrats are privately admitting the truth about the southern border crises.
"Democratic senators are privately acknowledging their party committed 'political malpractice' by bungling the issue of border security, which they view as a driving factor behind President-elect Trump’s sweeping victory and their loss of four Senate seats," the outlet reports.
This came, according to the outlet, during a "long and intense conversation" that the senators had during a recent lunch meeting.
One unnamed senator is quoted as saying:
We destroyed ourselves on the immigration issue in ways that were entirely predictable and entirely manageable. We utterly mismanaged that issue, including our Democratic caucus here. That’s political malpractice. That’s not someone else’s fault. That’s not the groups pushing us around.
There is definitely some truth in that.
Not every Democrat is keeping this private
Some Democrats, such as U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), have actually gone public with their criticism of the Democratic Party's handling of the southern border crisis.
Fetterman recently said:
Well, one area where we kind of lost ourselves was the border. And I've been on this network, you know, months, months ago saying, 'Hey, you know, it can't be controversial for our party to have pro-immigration, but we need a secure border.' And when we ask or demand people to not believe what they see, and see those kind of numbers, that that's not a problem. It's like, well, then you lose about that 100%.
The question now is how the Democrats are going to handle this issue going forward.
Many have already come forward and have expressed a willingness to work with Trump on this issue. This, of course, does not necessarily mean that they will work with Trump. Other Democrats, however, have already vowed to work against Trump on this issue.
Trump is expected to make securing the southern border one of his administration's top priorities. We expect to see action from Trump on Day One of his administration.
