Jill Biden loses to both Melania Trump and Michelle Obama in First Lady popularity contest
A new poll has found that outgoing First Lady Jill Biden is not the most popular first lady to have ever graced the White House.
In fact, according to the Daily Mail, she is at least in third place, behind former First Lady Michelle Obama and incoming First Lady Melania Trump.
You may be surprised to learn that not only is Melania Trump way more popular than Jill Biden but she is also nearly as popular as Michelle Obama - who is so popular that Democrats were trying to push her to run for the presidency in 2024.
Let's take a look at the results of the poll.
Here are the numbers:
The poll does indeed come from the Daily Mail itself. The outlet conducted a survey of 1,009 registered voters.
In a head-to-head matchup with Jill Biden, Melania Trump is considered the better first lady by a margin of 44% to 39%. 16% of participants were apparently undecided.
Melania got the support of 82% of Republican participants. She was also favored by white participants (50%), non-graduates (48%), and those in the 50-64 age group (47%).
Biden, on the other hand, won with Democrats (75%) and with black participants (62%).
It is worth noting that Melania did better with Republicans than Biden did with Democrats. It is also worth noting that Biden did 9 percentage points better with graduates.
What about Obama?
It is a much closer matchup when former First Lady Michelle Obama is entered into the mix.
When this happens, she becomes the favorite with 43% of the vote. Melania Trump, on the other hand, gets 39%, while Jill Biden only gets a measly 10% support. There were only 8% undecided this time around.
Some of the categories that pushed Obama over the edge are the 18-29 age group (49% to Trump's 29%), the black demographic (64% to 17% for Trump), and graduates (47% for Obama compared to 33% for Trump. Trump, however, did do better with the Republican Party than Obama did with the Democratic Party, by a score of 79% by Republicans for Trump compared to 69% for Obama by Democrats.
Also, it is interesting to note that Melania Trump actually did better than Obama in several categories, including with Men (42% for Trump, 40% for Obama), with the 50-64 age group (44% for Trump, 37% for Obama), with non-graduates (43% for Trump, 40% for Obama), and with the white demographic (46% for Trump, 37% for Obama).
In other words, Melania Trump holds her own against Obama, despite the fact that Obama has been extolled by the media, while Trump has been maligned. Biden, however, is in a distant third.
