CNN's Harry Enten outlines Biden's disastrous final poll numbers
Joe Biden, like most other Democrats, has long been able to bank on the unwavering -- and uncritical -- support of mainstream media outlets, but as his term in office came to an end, the tide clearly began to turn.
Evidence of Biden's reversal of fortune came during a weekend segment on CNN, in which CNN data reporter Harry Enten declared the outgoing president's final approval numbers to be “historically awful, declining to sugar coat the truth this time around, as HuffPost reports.
Enten lets loose
Just before Donald Trump's Monday inauguration, Enten took time to assess the American public's temperature when it comes to Biden and the legacy he leaves behind.
Enten highlighted the fact that an average of polls conducted with regard to presidents who either lost re-election bids or did not seek another term, Biden's approval -- standing at 38% -- comes in below that of Trump at the end of his initial term.
That was a time, Enten noted, “when everyone was saying Trump's political career was over,” a prediction turned upside down by his convincing Nov. 5 victory.
Enten's summation did not end there, and he added, “Biden came in to end the Donald Trump reign in this country […] and all that's ended up happening is that Joe Biden has managed to end up at a lower approval rating at the end of his first term than any president on record.”
Unfortunately for Biden, a more granular look at Biden's standing among the electorate at the end of his term revealed even worse news for the departing commander in chief.
Ignominious end
As Fox News noted, a USA Today/Suffolk University survey released last week provided another damning verdict for Biden's tenure, with a majority of Americans suggesting that history will not be kind to the 46th president of the United States.
A staggering 44% of those polled indicated that Biden will be remembered as a failed president, with an additional 27% suggesting that he will be assessed as having been “fair” at his job.
Just 21% of participants believed that Biden will be considered a “good” president, with a mere 5% labeling him “great.”
Those numbers led Enten to remark, “Look at how low Joe Biden is. My goodness gracious. You can't really get lower than 25% […] because the bottom line is there's going to be a bunch of Democrats who would say that Biden was a good or great president no matter what he did, but yet it's only a quarter of the country who believes that Joe Biden was a good or great president.”
The takeaway, according to Enten, is that Biden “goes out a very unpopular man at the end of a 50-plus year political career.”
Trump riding high
Biden's falling fortunes stand in stark contrast to the sentiments currently surrounding Trump, about whose new term in office a substantial majority of Americans -- including 67% of those aged 18-29 -- feel optimistic, as CBS News reports.
With so many segments of the electorate now expressing high hopes and positive feelings about the next four years under Trump, the new president is poised to capitalize on very real tailwinds as he embarks on his quest to make America great again.
