In what turned out to be a bizarre situation, a South Fulton, Georgia mayor was arrested last week for trespassing and burglarizing a person's home.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, Khalid Kamau, a Democratic socialist and cofounder of the Atlanta chapter of Black Lives Matter, was charged "with first-degree trespass and burglary after a homeowner caught him entering his home on Saturday."

Jack Lecroy, the homeowner, confronted the socialist mayor with a gun after he received an alert that someone had trespassed onto his property.

As Kamau decided to walk away, Lecroy demanded he stay and wait for police to arrive.

Dumb excuses

"I don’t have to listen to you, and you can’t give me orders," Kamau shouted back.

The mayor then attempted to explain that he was only there because he was fond of the property and claimed he wasn't aware that he was criminally trespassing. He also reportedly screamed profanities at Lecroy.

The city released a statement addressing the mayor's arrest.

"The City of South Fulton is committed to upholding the law and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the same fair and just treatment. As the investigation is still ongoing, we are unable to provide further details at this time," the city's statement read.

For a short time, Councilwoman Natasha Williams-Brown was appointed as acting mayor of South Fulton.

Shocking twist

In a separate Free Beacon report, it was revealed that Kamau returned to work this week, and dodged questions about his bizarre behavior and arrest, noting that he would address the situation in the future.

"We have never backed down from courageous conversations, but now is not the time for those discussions," he said during a recent city council meeting, adding, "We have city business to get to."

Kamau went on to say he would "announce a time and place for those conversations to happen."

Needless to say, his reelection chances just took a nosedive, as voters will likely shy away from electing someone who would make such a shockingly stupid decision, especially in his capacity as mayor. However, we live in crazy times and anything is possible.
