Israelis were horrified this week after their country was rocked by yet another suspected terror attack.

According to Fox News, a 23-year-old Palestinian man named Abed Khalila drove a van ran up on to a sidewalk and struck seven pedestrians in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.

The assailant is then reported to have exited his vehicle with a knife and began stabbing the victims before being shot by an armed citizen.

Master Sgt. Dean Elsdunne serves as international spokesperson for the Israeli Police, and he issued a video statement regarding the incident.

"We're in Tel Aviv where behind me a disturbing scene took place where a terrorist used a vehicle to injure seven people in a car ramming attack," Elsdunne began.

"The terrorist got out of his vehicle and attempted to continue the terror attack by stabbing more civilians with a sharp object," the Israeli law enforcement officer explained.

"Luckily, there was a civilian that was in the area who was armed [and] managed to neutralize this terrorist and prevent a much larger attack from taking place," Elsdunne stressed.

"Right now the victims are in two different hospitals, Beilinson and Ichilov, in various conditions and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this time," he went on to add.

The attack came as Israel has deployed thousands of troops to the West Bank city of Jenin as part of an anti-terror operation.

"Over the past hours, our security forces have been operating against terror hotspots in the city of Jenin," Fox News quoted Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant as saying on Monday.

Hamas calls vehicle attack "heroic"

"In the face of terrorism, we will take a proactive and decisive approach. Anyone who harms the citizens of Israel, will pay a heavy price," Gallant insisted.

Meanwhile, Fox News noted that Palestinian terror group Hamas issued a statement of its own which praised Tuesday's attack in Tel Aviv as being "heroic" and called Khalila "a martyr fighter."

"The heroic action in Tel Aviv is the first response to Israel's crimes against our people in the Jenin refugee camp," Hamas spokesperson Hazem Kassem said before declaring, "As the [Palestinian] resistance has already put it – Israel will pay the price for its crimes."
