Australians were left saddened this week to learn that 35-year-old acting superstar Johnny Ruffo died of brain cancer.

According to The West Australian, news of Ruffo's passing was announced on Thursday morning in a post to his personal Instagram page.

Actor "fought as hard as he could"

"It is with a heavy heart that today we had to farewell our beloved Johnny. Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny went peacefully with the support of some incredible nurses and doctors," the post began.

"He was a very talented, charming and sometimes cheeky boy. Johnny was very determined and had a strong will," it continued.

"He battled all the way to the end and fought as hard as he could. Such a beautiful soul with so much more to give," the post lamented.

The post concluded by declaring, "We all love you Johnny and will remember you for all the joy you brought to our lives."

Ruffo's career started on "The X-Factor Australia"

The Australian noted that Ruffo first rose to prominence in 2011 when he became a finalist on "The X-Factor Australia," ultimately securing a third-place finish.

From there, Ruffo managed to win on "Dancing with the Stars" and later portrayed Chris Harrington on the soap opera "Home and Away."

He also performed on Australian tours by such music groups as One Direction, Backstreet Boys, and New Kids on the Block.

Tributes to Ruffo quickly appeared online, including from Australia's Channel 7, which recalled how he "brought joy to the lives of so many on and off the screen."
