Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has long had a tendency to get himself into trouble by running his mouth and insulting others whom he perceives as having offended him.

That apparently includes rock and roll royalty and Beatles legend Paul McCartney, whom Baldwin recently confessed to having previously derided to his face as an "a--hole," according to the Inquisitr.

As it turns out, however, the actor further explained that the expletive toward the famed musician was meant in jest and the two are friends who used to practice yoga together.

Baldwin admits to insulting McCartney

Baldwin's surprising admission of the time that he insulted McCartney came during an appearance last week on the "Our Way with Paul Anka and Skip Bronson" podcast, during which the actor shared several anecdotes from his decades-long career in the entertainment industry.

That included a discussion of a yoga class he attended previously in Los Angeles, California, with a small group of friends dubbed the "yoga boys" that included McCartney.

Baldwin observed that while he and most of the others struggled with the various poses, "The only one who was really adept at yoga was McCartney."

Baldwin humiliated by McCartney's prowess at yoga

It was McCartney's apparent ease at performing certain difficult moves, such as a headstand, that led Baldwin to admonish his fellow entertainer as an "a--hole," according to Us Weekly.

"He would do a handstand or a headstand and he had the most lithe body you’ve ever seen -- and back then he was in his late 60s -- and he was so fit," Baldwin recalled. "One time he does a headstand before he leaves, and he gets up and whispers to me, he goes, 'I’m gonna go take my daughter to lunch. I’ll see you guys later.'"

"I looked up at him after he does the headstand and I go, 'You’re an a--hole,'" Baldwin admitted. "And I never thought I’d call one of The Beatles an asshole, but he was just always showing us up with his physical skills. He was a very fit guy."

Us Weekly noted that McCartney, now 81, has similarly spoken in the past about his inclusion in the "yoga boys" group with Baldwin and others, and has also confirmed that he typically ends his routine with a headstand, which more often earns him positive feedback from others instead of an insult -- even if meant in a joking manner.

The singer and guitarist also previously revealed that in addition to yoga, he practices transcendental meditation, and once said in an interview, "I think it’s always very good to get a sort of still moment in your day. Whenever I have a chance in a busy schedule, I’ll do it … I always like to take a moment and just meditate. It’s a good thing."

Baldwin hasn't admitted his guilt in shooting death of cinematographer

While Baldwin confessed to firing off an insulting expletive toward McCartney, one thing he has not yet admitted is his culpability for killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a negligent shot from a prop revolver he mistakenly believed was loaded with blanks while rehearsing a scene during the filming of the Western movie "Rust" in New Mexico.

Baldwin, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter for the 2021 shooting death, is scheduled to stand trial in July, according to the Associated Press.

The film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who negligently loaded the handgun with live rounds instead of blanks, was convicted on the same criminal charge in March and was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison.
