A convicted murderer has escaped from a prison in Pennsylvania.

The convict, according to Fox News, is 34-year-old Danelo Souza Cavalcante.

Cavalcante, an illegal immigrant, was recently imprisoned - for life - after being convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend in front of her children. He is also wanted for homicide in Brazil. According to the Associated Press, "Prosecutors say he killed his girlfriend to stop her from telling police about the charges against him in Brazil."

Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023. The circumstances of Cavalcante's escape are currently under investigation. All that is known is that he escaped while awaiting transfer to state prison.

$10,000 reward

On Friday, the U.S. Marshals Service began offering a $10,000 reward for locating Cavalcante, who has been described as "extremely dangerous."

A large amount of resources are currently being put into finding Cavalcante, including helicopters, drones, and dogs.

Nonetheless, Cavalcante remains on the run.

He's spotted

On Saturday, the Chester County District Attorney's Office announced what appeared to be a breakthrough in the case.

The office released a statement, saying:

Escaped murderer, Danelo Cavalcante, 34, of Royersford, PA, was observed on a residential surveillance camera on September 2, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Lenape Road, approximately 1.5 miles from the prison.

The statement continues with a description of Cavalcante, who is said to be about five feet tall and roughly 120 pounds.

The statement reads:

[Cavalcante] was wearing pants, a light-colored t-shirt, and white sneakers. His appearance has remained unchanged. He has long, black curly hair and is wearing a backpack. Police also received a report of an attempted burglary at 11:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ballintree Lane in Pocopson Township.

"Remain indoors"

At the time of this writing, Cavalcante, despite being seen on the surveillance camera, remains on the loose. Accordingly, District Attorney Deb Ryan has advised those in the area to "remain indoors."

Ryan said:

Law enforcement is requesting that residents in the area remain indoors at this time. Lock your vehicles. Review your surveillance cameras and contact police if you observe anything suspicious. Danelo Cavalcante is considered an extremely dangerous man. Please remain vigilant in assisting with this search. If you see this individual, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately.

In addition to all of the other unknowns, it also remains unknown when and how Cavalcante illegally entered the United States. Immigration officials have confirmed that Cavalacante was neither "inspected nor admitted" into the United States.
