Ilhan Omar boycotts Minnesota primary

While Joe Biden won Super Tuesday handily, disillusioned members of his party made their voices heard.

Among them, leftist Ilhan Omar, who opted not to vote in the primary.

The Somalian-born Minnesota Democrat signaled solidarity with those voting "uncommitted" in protest of Biden's foreign policy with Israel.

Biden received just 71% of his party's support in Minnesota, as nearly a fifth of Democrats voted "uncommitted."

Omar rejects Biden

The protest vote was even bigger in Omar's Minneapolis district, with over 30% voting "uncommitted."

“People are angry and frustrated and sad. They want the president to change his policies,” Omar told Politico. “They’ve tried marching. They’ve tried writing letters. They’ve tried calling and now they’re using their voice at the ballot box.”

With Donald Trump having all but secured the Republican nomination, and Biden doing the same for Democrats, it can be expected that voices of dissent will grow quieter as the election nears.

Still, Biden is wary of backlash as the likes of Omar continue to stoke anger toward his administration.

Biden has attempted to appease the left with promises of a cease-fire, while acknowledging Israel's right to defend itself in the wake of Hamas' brutal October 7 attack. The terror group slaughtered 1,200 Israelis and many are still in captivity.

Biden appeases the left

During his state of the Union on Thursday night, Biden raised his voice as he condemned the "intolerable" death toll in Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians have died in Israel's effort to wipe out Hamas.

"It's heartbreaking. I've been working nonstop to establish an immediate cease-fire that would last for six weeks to get all the prisoners released," he said.

The only Palestinian member of Congress, Rashida Tlaib (D-Mi.), held up a sign that read "lasting cease-fire now" as Biden gave those remarks.

Members of the left-wing "squad," including Tlaib and others, wore scowls through Biden's speech, matching those frowns with keffiyehs, black and white scarves that symbolize solidarity with Palestine.

Tlaib was among the 13% of Democrats who voted "uncommitted" in Michigan's primary last month. Like Minnesota, Michigan is a Midwestern state with a sizable Muslim minority, but Michigan is more competitive in general elections and is certain to be a pivotal battleground this November.

While the "uncommitted" campaign may have climaxed in Michigan's primary, the results there could also be a harbinger of disaster for Biden's campaign. Only time will tell.
