Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris is under fire after appearing to endorse communism just 48 hours before Election Day.
The uber-liberal California senator was criticized for sharing a video on Sunday in which she called for all Americans to “end up at the same place.”
Harris endorses socialism hours before Election Day
The video shows a white man and a black man both attempting to climb a mountain, to demonstrate, according to Harris, the distinction between “equality” and “equity.”
“Equality suggests ‘Oh everyone should get the same amount.’ The problem with that, not everybody’s starting out from the same place. So if we’re all getting the same amount, but you started out back there and I started out over here — we could get the same amount, but you’re still going to be that far back behind me,” Harris says. While the white man begins climbing, the black man is unable to reach his rope until the ground beneath him rises to put him on an “equal footing.” Eventually, the black man reaches the top of the mountain, where the white man is also standing.
Many pointed out that Harris seemed to endorse what is pretty much the classic formulation of communism: equality of outcomes, as opposed to equality of opportunity. “Equitable treatment means we all end up at the same place,” she concludes.
“Equity through government force inevitably puts one group at a disadvantage to another to social engineer outcomes. That’s not fair or equitable,” one Twitter user responded.
Harris forgets her script
President Trump has routinely attacked Joe Biden as a “Trojan horse” of the radical Left, as many speculate that “Sleepy Joe” might cede the presidency to the super-liberal Harris if they win the presidential election.
While Biden has been eager to assuage voters that he’s no socialist, that effort has been complicated by his running mate’s record, which is the most liberal of any serving United States senator, according to GovTrack.
As a presidential candidate, she endorsed the radical Green New Deal, a ban on fracking, and flirted with Medicare for All. Like Biden, however, Harris has balked at the notion that she harbors a socialist agenda.
When pressed on the matter recently in an interview, Harris simply burst into awkward laughter. But it may not matter that much whether she personally does or not. As Reason magazine put it, “If the Biden-Harris ticket triumphs on Election Day, expect the vast federal bureaucracy to become staffed with people who are interested in radical ideas like using wealth distribution to engineer leftist social outcomes.” That’s a disturbing prospect.
