Kevin McCarthy threatens to impeach Merrick Garland

With the right up in arms over the Justice Department's politicization, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) is threatening to impeach Biden's top cop Merrick Garland.

Pressure is building on Garland after the release of new damning testimony about interference at the DOJ to shield Hunter Biden. McCarthy has set a July 6th deadline to begin an impeachment inquiry if the facts support it.

"And if it comes true what the IRS whistleblower is saying, we're going to start impeachment inquiries on the attorney general," McCarthy told Fox and Friends.

Two whistleblowers told Congress that the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney who handled the Hunter Biden case, David Weiss, was denied the opportunity to press charges.

McCarthy's threat

IRS whistleblower Gary A. Shapley Jr and another whistleblower, who has not been named, also told Congress that Weiss asked to be made a special counsel but had the request shot down.

McCarthy has called on Weiss to come before Congress to clarify the discrepancy between the whistleblower claims and Merrick Garland's comments.

Garland has vehemently denied the claim that the Justice Department has been weaponized, insisting Weiss had free rein to pursue whatever charges he wished.

"I don't know how it would be possible for anybody to block him from bringing a prosecution," Garland said last week.

Deny, deny

The attorney general even said those sowing doubt about fairness at the DOJ were attacking "democracy."

"Some have chosen to attack the integrity of the Justice Department by claiming that we do not treat cases alike. This constitutes an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy."

The DOJ ultimately ended a five-year probe of Hunter Biden with a slap on the wrist, despite evidence of serious crimes like money laundering.

The threat from McCarthy comes days after he quashed a push to impeach Biden from Lauren Boebert (Co.).

The Speaker and like-minded Republicans have advocated a more cautious approach, but with evidence of Biden's corruption mounting by the day, Republicans may not be able to delay action for much longer.
