To the surprise of many, several left-leaning mainstream media outlets have come out against Vice President Kamala Harris's so-called economic plan. 

One, in fact, even accused Harris of trying to turn America into Venezuela, or even the Soviet Union.

The accusation came from Catherine Rampell, who, according to Breitbart News, is the Economics and Political Commentator for CNN, a columnist for the Washington Post, and a special correspondent for PBS Newshour. 

One, of course, does not obtain such positions with these outlets without being a staunch Democrat. But, apparently, Harris's proposal is even too far to the left for Rampell.

"We've seen this kind of thing . . . before"

In case you missed it, Harris and her campaign issued its economic proposal for America on Friday. Fox News describes it as the "first-ever federal price-fixing plan for corporations."

The plan has been rejected by the Washington Post, CNN, PBS, and others on the left. That's not to mention Republicans and independents.

Rampell gave her take on the plan during an appearance Friday on CNN's News Central. 

"We’ve seen this kind of thing tried in lots of other countries before, Venezuela, Argentina, the Soviet Union etc." she said.

Rampell added:

It leads to shortages, it leads to black markets, plenty of uncertainty, and beyond that, the specific way this bill is written might actually increase prices, because of some of the other language in it, things like requiring companies, public companies to disclose in their quarterly reports — their quarterly earnings reports how they’re setting prices, which is a great way to help them collude, which, normally, we don’t want them to do.

Trump pounces

Former President Donald Trump and his team were quick to pounce on Harris's proposal. Trump argued that Harris has had plenty of time to fix the problem, but hasn't.

"Yesterday, Kamala laid out her so-called economic plan—she says she’s going to lower the cost of food and housing starting on “Day One”. But Day One for Kamala was three and a half years ago. WHY DIDN’T SHE DO IT? This is day 1,305. WHY ISN’T SHE DOING IT NOW?" Trump wrote.

Instead, Trump has posted a graphic showing how the prices of various commodities have gone up since Harris has been in office.

Trump further argued that the logical thing to do would be to expect more of the same from Harris were she to win the presidency.

Trump wrote:

If you think things are expensive now, they will get 100 times WORSE if Kamala gets four years as President. Under her plan, Kamala will implement SOVIET Style Price Controls. She will abolish private health care, and make California's ridiculous tax policies the law of the land, meaning EVERY American will be taxed up to 80% of their income! If you want more CASH and less TAX, VOTE TRUMP!!!
