New CIA director accuses Biden administration of suppressing information about COVID's origins
Fox News reported late last year that the Biden administration suppressed evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic originated in a Chinese lab.
However, a move by President Donald Trump's new CIA director suggests that proponents of the lab-leak theory are about to be vindicated.
John Ratcliffe looked at COVID intelligence on his "first day"
According to Fox News, newly confirmed CIA Director John Ratcliffe recently revealed that intelligence findings regarding COVID's will be made public.
Ratcliffe made the announcement this past weekend during an interview with Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" host Maria Bartiromo.
"I had the opportunity on my first day to make public an assessment that actually took place in the Biden administration, so it can't be accused of being political, and the CIA has assessed that the most likely cause of this pandemic that has wrought so much devastation around the world was because of a lab-related incident in Wuhan, so we'll continue to investigate that moving forward," Ratcliffe told Bartiromo.
"I think it was important for the American people to see an institution like the CIA get off the sidelines and be truthful about what our intelligence shows and, at the same time, protect us from adversaries like China if they caused or contributed to this," he added.
Calls for transparency were met with "constant opposition"
This is not the first time that Ratcliffe, who served during Trump's first time as director of national intelligence (DNI), has discussed former President Joe Biden's handling of COVID.
He previously did so in an op-ed piece written two years ago with deputy director of national intelligence for strategy and communications Cliff Sims.
Ratcliffe and Sims alleged that the Biden White House consistently worked to keep Americans in the dark regarding where COVID came from.
"We pushed to declassify intelligence revealing some of what we knew about the virus’s origins and the Chinese Communist Party’s initial cover-up, but faced constant opposition, particularly from within the CIA," they wrote.
"The American people deserve the truth"
"The CIA is the world’s premier spy agency. Its reach is unmatched, its ability to acquire information unrivaled," the pair stressed.
"And yet here we are three-and-a-half years later and there is ample public reporting that the CIA just doesn’t have enough information to make an assessment," they continued.
"The American people deserve the truth – and we do know the truth – regarding the origins of COVID-19," Ratcliffe and Sims wrote as they drew to a close.
They concluded by stating that transparency "is the only way to rebuild trust and muster the public will to confront the national security challenge of our time: a reckless and belligerent Chinese Communist Party hellbent on imposing its oppressive, authoritarian values on the world."
