Former Vice President Mike Pence said he supports the Biden administration's decision to send cluster bombs to Ukraine.

Pence shared his thoughts on the subject during an interview Monday on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

The remarks

"But Joe Biden’s been slow on it," Pence said. "I mean, he just approved the cluster munitions, which the Russians have been using for a year and a half against Ukrainian forces."

"I welcome the cluster munitions," added Pence, who suggested that providing the weapons is key to Ukraine's success in battling Russia. "I think it ends by giving the Ukrainians what they need to win."

His recent visit

The support came following a recent trip to Ukraine with the Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan's Purse.

“This is bigger than politics,” Pence said during his visit.

“I really do believe that if Vladimir Putin and the Russian military were to overrun Ukraine, it wouldn’t be too long before they cross the border where our men and women would be required to fight,” he continued.

America's interest?

“But supporting the Ukrainian military to repel and defeat the Russian invasion is in the interest of the United States of America, and it’s in the interest of freedom,” Pence said during a Breitbart News interview.

“I will tell you I have no doubt in my mind that if the Russian army was able to overrun Ukraine, it would not be too long before they crossed a border where, under our NATO charter, our American armed forces would be required to go and fight,” Pence said, describing himself as someone who ascribes to the “Reagan Doctrine.”

The Ukraine war started off as popular among most Americans in its defense against Russia but has since waned as the Biden administration continues to send billions of dollars with no end to the conflict in sight.

The latest report shows that Pence seeks to be the GOP candidate who supports Ukraine as he builds his campaign for 2024.
