The federal prosecutor accused of targeting a Hunter Biden whistleblower is married to a former Obama Foundation employee.

Damian Williams, the Biden-appointed U.S. attorney of the Southern District of New York, is prosecuting a witness in the GOP's Biden investigation, Israeli-American professor Gal Luft.

Williams' wife Jennifer Wynn was director of education for the Obama Foundation as recently as November 2020, the Daily Caller reported.

New Obama connection

There's a deep level of irony to the case, as one of the charges against Luft is for unregistered foreign lobbying on behalf of China - a crime many argue Hunter Biden has gotten away with. Luft was also charged with arms trafficking and violating sanctions against Iran.

“He [Luft] subverted foreign agent registration laws in the United States to seek to promote Chinese policies,” Williams said.

Democrats and their media allies have seized on the charges to push back on claims that the Biden family is corrupt.

But the DOJ has acknowledged that Luft worked with the same Chinese company, CEFC China Energy, that wired millions of dollars to Hunter and his uncle James Biden. Republicans have cited that connection to defend Luft's credibility in the wake of the indictment.

“Gal Luft is a credible witness to the Bidens’ influence peddling schemes because he too was getting paid by the same shady company," House Oversight Chairman James Comer (Ky.) said.

Weaponization of justice

Republicans have also hinted the case against Luft is another example of the justice system being weaponized to protect the Bidens.

Unlike Luft, Paul Manafort, and others associated with the right, Hunter will not face charges under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, despite a body of evidence that points to his central involvement in an international influence peddling scheme.

Hunter Biden is facing no jail time after pleading guilty to tax charges and lying on a gun form last month. Luft is facing up to 100 years in prison. Still, Democrats have insisted there is one law for everyone, and that Republicans are blowing smoke with "conspiracy theories" about the Bidens' corruption.

Luft fled custody after posting bail following his February arrest in Cyprus. In a video shared with the New York Post, Luft said he is being targeted by the Biden Justice Department for political reasons and will likely be on the run "for the rest of [his] life."

As it happens, Williams has deep ties to Democrats, including Biden's controversial attorney general Merrick Garland, who Williams clerked for when Garland was a judge.
