Report: Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris to spite Barack Obama

President Joe Biden was quick to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris after announcing earlier this month that he will not seek another term in office.

According to a report published by the New York Post, that move was partly done in retaliation for former President Barack Obama pressuring him to drop out of the race.

Move described as a " big f--k you" to Obama

An unnamed Democratic source was quoted as telling the newspaper that Biden's endorsement of Harris was intended as a " big f--k you" to Obama. The source added, "Joe said, "'If I'm out, then I am endorsing her.'"

Another "well-placed Democratic Party source" said that Obama had told former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York Senator Chuck Schumer that he wanted "a mini primary" which Harris would be unlikely to win.

The figure claimed that through his endorsement, Biden was "truly knifing Obama and Pelosi in the back for making him stand down."

A third figure explained that the president's elevation of Harris "allows Biden to retain leverage as a much more experienced hand at national politics, which will be good for her. "It means her campaign won’t be run by a bunch of insular advisors."

Source says Obama believes Harris "can't win"

That report came just days after the Post published another article which alleged that Obama was "furious" over Biden's hasty endorsement.

"Obama's very upset because he knows she can't win," a figure described as being close to the Biden family was quoted as saying.

"Obama knows she's just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her," the source continued.

"When you are running for president there are things you can and can't say," the individual asserted. "Wait until the debate… She can’t debate. She’s going to put her foot in her mouth about Israel, Palestine, Ukraine."

Harris trails Trump by two points in new poll

The source predicted that Harris is "going to say something really stupid" before adding, "Obama knew this was going to happen, Joe knew this was going to happen. Now she is going to have to answer real questions."

Exactly how Harris' candidacy will play out remains to be seen, as a recently conducted Wall Street Journal poll found that she performs better than Biden.

However, the survey still showed Harris trailing former President Donald Trump by two points in a head-to-head match up.
