Vice President Kamala Harris generated headlines this week by choosing Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz to serve as her running mate.

While some were stunned that Harris did not pick Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro, a new report may explain her reasoning.

Walz told Harris he is "not angling for anything else"

A Politico article published on Tuesday cited unnamed Democratic insiders as saying that Walz disavowed having any presidential ambitions of his own while being interviewed by Harris.

"I’m at the end of my career. This is not about me. This is about America’s working families," he was quoted as telling the vice president and members of her vetting team.

"And if I have to run through a brick wall, if I have to do the hard things, I'm willing to do it because I'm not angling for anything else," the Minnesota governor went on to add.

"Progressives see him as a trustworthy guy"

Meanwhile, someone described as being an "aide to another vice presidential prospect" explained to Politico that Walz "was probably the person with no organized group working against him."

"Progressives see him as a trustworthy guy. He has bipartisan cred that moderates respect," the individual who spoke on the condition of anonymity stressed.

The source stressed that Shapiro is controversial in left-wing circles due to his support for Israel while Arizona Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly was met with opposition from organized labor groups.

Yet although Harris' selection of Walz may have placated those on the far left of her party, his record in office came under attack by Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Vance.

"Tim Waltz allowed rioters to burn down Minneapolis"

According to Fox News, Vance slammed Walz for letting riots engulf Minneapolis in 2020 while also highlighting the fact that Harris promoted a bail fund for rioters.

"They make an interesting tag team because, of course," Fox News quoted Vance as saying when he spoke with reporters on Tuesday.

"Tim Waltz allowed rioters to burn down Minneapolis in the summer of 2020. And then, the few who got caught, Kamala Harris helped them out of jail," Vance continued.

The Republican vice presidential nominee further asserted that Harris' decision to pick Walz was reflective of "how radical" she is.
