Stephen King and Ted Cruz trade blows in Twitter brawl

Horror writer Stephen King has spent decades penning lurid tales, including one that featured children involved in group sex.

Yet rather than writing about supernatural conflict, the author spent much of last week drumming up a political one when he picked a fight with Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

Cruz slams White House for border crisis

The spat began when Cruz tweeted out footage from a recent appearance on "Fox & Friend," during which he addressed the ongoing migrant crisis along America's southern border.

"I spend a lot of time at the southern border. I've spent a lot of time with our border patrol agents. It's never been remotely this bad," Cruz declared before adding, "This is an invasion [and] our families are less safe because Joe Biden is president."

King responded by bringing up an incident from 2021 in which Cruz traveled to Cancun while many in his state were struggling with power outages due to a winter storm.

"You’ve also spent a lot of time in Cancun"

"You’ve also spent a lot of time in Cancun," the best-selling author remarked before sarcastically asking, "That's pretty south, right?"

Cruz shot back by accusing King of being a "multi-millionaire leftist" who "sits in his mansion in Maine and laughs at the kids being abused [and] the women being sexually assaulted on our Southern border."

"He doesn’t give a damn about their suffering—or about the 853 migrants who died last year or the 100k Americans who died of drug overdoses. Nope. What does he want to talk about? Cancun," the senator complained.

A 2019 New York Times report highlighted the prevalence of sexual abuse committed along the border by human traffickers, with one victim telling the news paper, "You have to pay with your body."

King and Cruz have fought in the past

For his part, King responded by pointing to Cruz's own wealth, saying "You're worth three mil yourself, Teddy. Guess you can go to Cancun pretty much whenever you want. How are your constituents doing?"

Mashable noted how this is not the first time King has gone after Cruz, as in 2018 the author put out a series of tweets in which he called Cruz "kinda creepy" and "one slimy crawdad."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
