A tattoo artist in Clinton, Missouri who is battling cancer got more bad news after his shop was broken into and vandalized.

Shy'rell Wynes told KMBC News last week that her husband Addison struggled to get an accurate diagnosis when he began suffering from stomach pains this past January.

Cancer was initially misdiagnosed while husband's pain grew "worse and worse"

"We went to several doctors, emergency rooms multiple times in Clinton," Mrs. Wynes was quoted as telling the news outlet.

"Everybody was just saying it was gastritis and take Prilosec and Mylanta. And it wasn't helping at all. The pain was getting worse and worse," she explained.

However, her husband finally had a computerized tomography (CT) scan, which uncovered the presence of a mass.

A subsequent biopsy determined that he had Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma, something Shy'rell described as "an aggressive cancer" which "grows pretty quickly."

The Lymphoma Research Foundation states that Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma "is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in the United States and worldwide, accounting for about 22 percent of newly diagnosed cases of B-cell NHL in the United States."

Business fell victim to burglary and collapsed ceiling

"When we heard we were going to fight cancer, I was like, okay, we can do this," Mrs. Wynes said. "But this part of it, I don’t know what to do. We feel so alone."

What's more, she said that the situation grew worse when their business, Stay Cold Tattoo, was burglarized and then vandalized a few weeks later.

"When I got there, the back door was wide open. My heart just sank because it had been broken into. A lot of his tattoo stuff was stolen," she recalled.

This was in turn followed by a leak in the building's roof which led to its ceiling collapsing on the equipment that was not stolen.

Family has created online fundraiser to make up for lost income

"It just felt like one thing after another," Shy'rell lamented, adding that her husband has "always been an artist and musician" who has "always loved art."

She noted that her husband's cancer diagnosis has prevented him from earning a living for her and their three children, remarking, "It's definitely been a struggle. We have no income. We haven't since January."

That led the family to set up an online fundraiser through GoFundMe, which has managed to raise $9,180 as of Monday morning.
