Trump gives 2,000-pound bombs to Israel
The new administration of President Donald Trump just made it clear that it is going to be taking a far different approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict from the approach taken by the Biden administration.
Breitbart News reports that the Trump administration did so by ordering the Pentagon to give 2,000-pound bombs to Israel.
We know that the Biden administration was against the idea because it actually withheld these same bombs from Israel.
Suffice it to say that this is a major policy shift in the U.S. government.
Background
As we know, the Israel-Hamas conflict has been a difficult one for the Democrats. This is because there is a large number of Democratic voters in America who are anti-Israel.
For this reason, first Biden and then former Vice President Kamala Harris had to walk a fence on the issue of Israel, and in order to walk this fence they denied certain forms of aid. This would include these roughly 2,000-pound bombs.
Biden paused the shipment of these bombs to Israel back in May of 2024.
At the time, the Associated Press reported:
As it targets Hamas’ underground tunnels in Gaza, Israel has relied on powerful 2,000-pound bombs provided by the United States. But now those deliveries are on hold. The U.S. is pausing a shipment of 1,800 of the bombs, as well as 1,700 500-pound bombs, U.S. officials said. The decision comes as Israel is planning an assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah in an attempt to root out the final elements of Hamas.
Now, however, Biden's pause has been lifted.
Trump lifts Biden ban
Axios was the first to report that the Trump administration has authorized the release of these heavy bombs to Israel, essentially lifting a ban Biden had placed on them.
Per the outlet:
The Trump White House instructed the Pentagon to release the hold imposed by the Biden administration on the supply of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, three Israeli officials told Axios.
The outlet goes on to report that "The Israeli government was notified by the Pentagon about the release on Friday."
It continues:
The officials said that 1,800 MK-84 bombs, which were held in storage in the U.S., will be put on a ship and delivered to Israel in the coming days.
Trump, for his part, has released a statement, saying, "A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but have not been sent by Biden, are now on their way!"
