Trump knocked for laughing at radio host's joke about purported Jewish faith of second gentleman Doug Emhoff
Former President Donald Trump is once again being accused by Democrats and leftist media outlets of antisemitism following a recent radio interview in New York.
Trump appeared to agree with WABC radio host Sid Rosenberg when he referred to Vice President Kamala Harris' Jewish husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, as a "crappy" and "horrible Jew," the Daily Beast reported.
The former president was also slammed for suggesting that American Jews were "fools" if they continued to support and vote for the Democratic Party, given the raging antisemitism and openly anti-Israel sentiment on the party's left flank.
Emhoff a "crappy Jew. He’s a horrible Jew."
Rolling Stone reported that during former President Trump's Monday interview on WABC's "Sid & Friends In the Morning," Trump said at one point, "If you’re Jewish, if you vote for a Democrat, you’re a fool."
That prompted host Rosenberg to remark, likely speculating on the lax observance of his faith, "They tell me that Harris’ husband -- Doug Emhoff -- Mr. President, he’s Jewish. He’s Jewish like Bernie Sanders is Jewish, are you kidding me, he’s a crappy Jew. He’s a horrible Jew."
Trump reportedly laughed and replied "Yes" to those remarks but did not directly name or insult the prospective first Jewish spouse of a president, if Harris were to win November's election.
The outlet noted that just a few days earlier at a rally in North Carolina, Trump had accused Harris of being "totally against the Jewish people," and went on to say, "It amazes me how Jewish people will vote for the Democrats when they’re being treated so disrespectfully and badly. It amazes me. It’s shocking. I don’t, I don’t get it. I don’t get it."
Chuck Schumer a Palestinian?
According to The Independent, it wasn't just the Jewishness of the second gentleman that was joked about in that interview, as the professed faith and heritage of Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was also jokingly called into question as Trump noted his hardline stance against the current Israeli government and said, "Today, it’s almost like -- I mean, Schumer has become a Palestinian."
"Chuck Schumer is officially now a Palestinian," Trump reiterated, to which Rosenberg laughed and added, "It’s funny but it’s true. It’s sad. He is."
The Independent noted that Trump was quite predictably maligned and accused of engaging in antisemitism and bigotry by VP Harris, her husband, and other Democrats and media figures.
The outlet also observed that this is far from the first time that the former president has flirted with such controversy by questioning how American Jews can continue to vote in support of Democratic candidates when the Democratic Party seemingly refuses to address the rampant antisemitism in its midst.
Democrats really do have a problem with antisemitism
As usual, Trump's rhetoric may not be to everyone's liking but he does raise a valid point about leftist antisemitism that far too often is ignored or deliberately swept under the rug by party officials and their media allies.
Most prominently seen among activists on college campuses, there are legitimate complaints that Democrats in Congress have done very little to put a stop to the anti-Jew hatred, which is quite ironic given how the party is otherwise quick to address real or perceived hate crimes against other minority groups.
To be sure, Democrats and the media will raise a ruckus for a few days to a week about the comments about the Jewish second gentleman, but it will eventually blow over or be replaced by whatever the next latest and new outrage du jour happens to be.
