Trump shares reactions of son Barron and wife Melania after learning of assassination attempt
Former President Donald Trump was nearly assassinated during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13 and the incident has had a deep impact on him and others, including members of his family.
During a recent interview, Trump revealed the immediate reaction of his youngest son, Barron, and how he ran to his mother, Melania, as soon as he heard about what happened, according to IMDb.
The former first son had been playing tennis when the incident occurred while the former first lady watched it all unfold live on TV.
Barron ran to his mother after learning of shooting
The New York Post reported that former President Trump recently sat down for an interview with Fox News host Mark Levin to discuss a range of topics that included the July 13 assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
"Barron was outside having a tennis lesson," Trump recalled. "He’s a good tennis player. He was outside playing tennis and somebody ran up and said, ‘Barron! Barron! Your father’s been shot!’"
"He went -- you know, he loves his father. He’s a good kid, good student, good athlete actually -- and he ran, 'Mom! What’s going on? What’s going on?'"
"She couldn't believe it. She was actually watching it live, can you imagine," Trump said of his wife Melania. "And then I got up and let people know I was ok -- 'fight, fight, fight' -- but I let people know I was ok. But it was a hit, it was a big hit. And, a miracle, actually."
Did God save Trump so he could save the country?
Later in the interview, after discussing the miraculous nature of his survival from the assassination attempt, Levin suggested to former President Trump that God "saved your life. He has a purpose for you," and asked if he ever gave thought to such things.
After again recounting the near-miss, both in terms of his own life and the potential for mass carnage among his supporters at the rally, Trump said in response, "If you believed in God, you believe in God more" after the shooting.
"And I'd like to think that God thinks I'm gonna straighten our country. Our country is so sick, and it's so broken," he added. "Our country is just broken, and maybe that was the reason. I don't know."
Former first lady demanding answers
As for former first lady Melania Trump, she is now demanding answers about what occurred before, during, and after the assassination attempt against her husband nearly two months ago, according to The Hill.
In an X post to promote her eponymously title memoir, Trump said, "The attempt to end my husband's life was a horrible, distressing experience. Now, the silence around it feels heavy."
She wondered specifically why the shooter, who was spotted ahead of time and had raised suspicions among law enforcement, wasn't arrested before the speech began, and said, "There is definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth."
In her initial reaction to the shooting incident that nearly killed the former president, per The Hill, Melania said, "When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change," and added at the time, "I am grateful to the brave Secret Service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband."
