There is no denying that golf is an important part of former President Donald Trump's life, as he owns several golf courses around the world and typically hits the links for a quick round at least once a week.

Trump's routine golf outings have reportedly been placed on hold, at least until after November's election, after a would-be assassin attempted to kill him while he was golfing at his South Florida course near his Mar-a-Lago resort, Metro World News reported.

The reason for the unusual hiatus from the former president's favorite hobby and form of exercise is reportedly because the U.S. Secret Service can't guarantee right now that they can keep him safe from threats of harm on the wide open courses.

No golfing until after the election

ABC News reported that former President Trump has not gone golfing since the mid-September assassination attempt at his private course in South Florida and he may not be able to do so again for several more weeks or months.

That change in Trump's routine is because the Secret Service is concerned about their ability to fully protect him while he is golfing and reportedly told him during a briefing last month that additional planning and security measures would need to be put in place before the agency felt confident that they could keep him safe.

The Secret Service declined to answer questions about the reported development and instead referred those questions to the Trump campaign, but did release a more general statement about the protection it provides the former president and current GOP nominee.

Agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said, "Since the attempted assassination of former President Trump on July 13, the U.S. Secret Service has made comprehensive changes and enhancements to our communications capabilities, resourcing, and protective operations."

"Today, the former President is receiving heightened protection and we take the responsibility to ensure his safety and security very seriously," he added.

Secret Service unable to guarantee his safety while golfing

NBC News similarly reported that, according to a pair of unnamed sources, former President Trump has not been golfing since the foiled assassination attempt last month and likely won't do so again until at least after the election next month.

A third source told the outlet that Trump was informed last month that federal agents were uncertain that they could keep him safe while golfing, with those concerns being expressed by both the acting director of the Secret Service, Ronald Rowe, and by senior officials with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Indeed, The New York Times reported last month that Trump specifically asked Rowe whether and when he would be able to safely play golf again but was told that, given how close some of his courses are to public roads, more planning and additional security would be necessary to make any golf outings safe again.

A disruption of his typical routine

If Trump is unable to go golfing again until after the election, per NBC News, it would be his longest stretch without visiting one of his courses since the early days of the 2020 pandemic, when he was kept off the fairways and greens for about two months.

That will be a significant change to Trump's lifestyle which usually includes a visit to one of his several courses at least once per week, depending upon his scheduling and location.

Hopefully, the Secret Service will soon figure out how best to keep Trump safe while golfing so he can resume enjoying his preferred pastime soon.
