There's nothing worse than watching a group of anti-American liberal whackjobs burn an American flag.

Flag burners have been on the rise recently as anti-Israel protests continue to break out throughout the country. Burning flags was especially on display over the past week during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the U.S.

Many believe burning a flag should carry serious criminal consequences, including former President Donald Trump. According to The Daily Wire, Trump is calling for punishment for those who disgrace the U.S. flag.

Trump has called for consequences for flag burners in the past, and millions of Americans agree with him on the subject.

What did he say?

Just a day after anti-Israel protesters gathered at the U.S. Capitol and disgraced several monuments and burned countless American flags, Trump held nothing back regarding his feelings on the matter during a “Fox & Friends” interview.

The former president wants flag burners to do a minimum one-year prison sentence. He explained why he believes that's the right punishment for the crime.

"Rarely have we seen anything like this," Trump said. "And I think you should get a one-year jail sentence if you do anything to desecrate the American flag. Now people will say, ‘Oh, it’s unconstitutional.’ Those are stupid people. Those are stupid people that say that."

Trump pointed out that world leaders, and especially America's adversaries, are watching the same footage of Americans burning their own flag, and it projects weakness and chaos, which is bad news as far as national security is concerned.

"We have to work in Congress to get a one-year jail sentence," the former president said.

"When they’re allowed to stomp on the flag and put lighter fluid on the flag and set it afire — when you’re allowed to do that — you get a one-year jail sentence, and you’ll never see it again," he continued. "And all over the world, Putin and President Xi of China, all over the world they’re watching this. Kim Jong Un, he looks at us like we’re a bunch of babies. They see that, that wouldn’t happen in their countries. It’s impossible for that to happen in their countries. We look so bad to the world. That was a disgraceful display yesterday."

Social media reacts

Users across social media reacted to Trump's vow to imprison flag burners, with an overwhelming number of people supporting the idea.

"This should be done immediately!!" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Yes, and I still would like to know why the National Guard who is under the control of the CIC has not been called into DC to stop what they are doing. Burning the flag has got to be against the law."
