The New York Post reported that Barron Trump turned up at New York University (NYU) on Wednesday to begin his studies at the Stern School of Business.

It's not clear how the 18-year-old will be received, as some of NYU's professors previously called his father a "threat" to the country.

Letter accused former president of trying to "undermine" democracy

According to the UK's Independent, one of the academics is JP Eggers, who began serving as interim dean at Stern earlier this summer.

Eggers and 19 other Stern professors signed an open letter four years ago which was written to "sound the alarm" about Donald Trump's presidency.

Authored by Harvard University Professor Deepak Malhotra, it alleged that Trump "denigrates science, peddles in lies, incites violence, attempts to delegitimize the press, politicizes everything from the justice department to the CDC to the postal service, and seeks to undermine the integrity of American elections."

"It is time for business leaders to declare publicly what so many have been saying privately: that President Trump is unfit to lead and is a threat to the Republic," Malhotra went on to assert.

The Independent stated that it has contacted Eggers and the New York University's Stern School of Business for comment on this year's election.

Donald Trump: Son has "always been a very good student"

The Post reported that former President Trump spoke about his son prior to a campaign event in Michigan last month, saying, "He's all set in a certain school that’s very good."

The Republican Party's nominee went on to describe Barron as "smart" and praised him for having "always been a very good student."

Trump had earlier told Philadelphia's Talk Radio 1210 WPHT in a May  interview that his youngest child is "funny" and "a good-looking guy" who sometimes offers political advice.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail cited a source in July who said that former First Lady Melania Trump would join her son in New York.

Mrs. Trump says husband doesn't need her like Joe Biden needs Jill

The source characterized Mrs. Trump as "a hands-on mother" who "is already planning to spend part of every month – and potentially every week – in NYC" regardless of whether her husband wins in November.

Stephanie Grisham served as the former first lady's White House press secretary as well as her chief-of-staff, and she relayed a similar message to the Daily Mail.

"Melania has said, 'I don't need to stand by Donald like Jill Biden; it is like she's holding Joe Biden up,'" Grisham declared.
