According to ADL, Omar committed ‘blood libel’ by labeling Jewish students ‘pro-genocide’ or ‘anti-genocide’.

"Squad" member, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), has been accused of a “blood libel” by the Anti-Defamation League for her claim that all Jewish students could be divided into just two camps, “pro-genocide” or “anti-genocide.”

Omar made these statements on Friday during a visit to Columbia University with anti-Israel protesters; she is now tripling down on them, as the New York Post reported.

“So I actually met a lot of Jewish students that are in the encampments. And I think it is really unfortunate that people don’t care about the fact that all Jewish kids should be kept safe and that we should not have to tolerate antisemitism or bigotry for all Jewish students whether they are pro-genocide or anti-genocide,” Omar told a local reporter.

The Speech

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Omar were among the first two Muslim-American women to be elected to the House of Representatives.

Shortly after Israel retaliated against Hamas for the murderous surprise attack that occurred on October 7, 2023, resulting in an estimated 1,200 deaths, Omar labeled the conflict a "genocide."

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt reprimanded Omar for her remarks, which implied she believed that anyone who does not oppose Israel's war against Hamas supports genocide, and labeled her statement "blood libel."

“It is patently false and a blood libel to suggest that ANY Jewish students are ‘pro-genocide.’ It is gaslighting to impute that Jewish people are somehow at fault for being harassed and menaced with signs and slogans literally calling for their own extermination,” Greenblatt fired back on X.

Greenblatt called out Omar, asserting she should apologize, but said “I’m not holding my breath.”

Omar's Response

Omar defended her remarks by referencing an Intercept article detailing a Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights investigation into the University of Massachusetts Amherst regarding alleged "anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab harassment and discrimination by fellow students."

A comparable federal complaint has been lodged against Columbia by the same group that lodged the complaint against UMass.

“This is the pro-genocide I was talking about, can you condemn this like I have condemned antisemitism and bigotry of all kind? ‘Kill All Arabs’ ‘They are all Hamas. All grotesquely evil’ ‘Level Gaza,'” Omar posted on X, citing the article.

Omar, a longtime ardent critic of Israel, had previously faced significant criticism for drawing parallels between the United States and Israel and the Taliban and Hamas.

She voted against an approximately $26 billion package of humanitarian aid for the Palestinians and military support for Israel earlier this month.

Students at Columbia University, where she accompanied Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and others on Friday, have established encampments and protests against Israel.

Omar visited the encampments during her visit and expressed admiration for their “bravery and courage."
