Former New York Times editor Jill Abramson claimed Tuesday in a new op-ed in Semafor that the White House and its press corps has been covering up evidence of President Joe Biden's mental decline from the media and the American people. 

She started out fairly truthful, writing, "It’s clear the best news reporters in Washington have failed in the first duty of journalism: to hold power accountable."

But after that obvious comment, she quickly returned to dishonesty like a dog to its vomit.

The blame game

First, she blamed the White House for hiding the extent of Biden's decline.

"The Biden White House clearly succeeded in a massive cover-up of the degree of the President’s feebleness and his serious physical decline, which may be simply the result of old age," she wrote.

Next, she blamed the press corps for not reporting on Biden's decline.

"Shame on the White House press corps for not to have pierced the veil of secrecy surrounding the President," she went on.

But here's the thing: media outlets not beholden to Democrats have been reporting on Biden's decline--both mental and physical.

Following orders

It has long been known that the mainstream media gets its talking points directly from Democrats. Clearly, they were told not to report on Biden's decline except to minimize it and explain it away, and they followed orders faithfully until it became too obvious to ignore during Thursday night's CNN presidential debate with former President Donald Trump.

For Abramson and her cronies to now claim they didn't know what was going on is beyond ridiculous. Most of them knew exactly what was happening, but wanted to pretend it wasn't so they could hold onto power for as long as possible.

The liberal media has been the quintessential example of that old fable in which the emperor is tricked into parading down the street naked, but no one will point it out.

Now that the whole world has been able to see the extent of the decline, however, Democrats will have to deal with the fallout and decide whether they want to lose the election with Biden or take their chances on a replacement.

Even if they want to play the blame game for a while first.
